Installing the Windows NT device driver for Series 15/44/441/48/70
------------------------------------------------------------------
This procedure will disable the Adaptec 1542 and BusLogic drivers.
This procedure will allow you to replace the boot driver on drive C. This
should only be done if you are booting to an AMI Series 15, 44, 441, 48, or
70. Your adapter should be configured with the extended mode (32-bit driver
or Busmaster > 16Mb) disabled to begin with.
1) Boot up Windows NT (it will boot in Adaptec 154x compatability mode).
2) Select "Windows NT Setup" in the "Main" window.
3) Pull down the "Options" menu and select "Add/Remove SCSI Adapters...".
4) Click on "Add..." in the "SCSI Adapter Setup" window.
5) Expand the selection box at "Adapter:", and click on "Other (Requires
a disk from a hardware manufacturer)".
6) Ensure that the AMI SCSI adapter files diskette is in A: or B:, and that
the dialog box in the "Insert Diskette" window shows "A:\NT311" or
"B:\NT311", and
click on OK.
7) In the "Select OEM Option" window, you will be presented with these
options:
"Adaptec 154x/164x as primary boot device"
"Adaptec 154x/164x not as primary boot device"
"AMIscsi Series 15/44/441/48/70 as primary boot device"
"AMIscsi Series 15/44/441/48/70 not as primary boot device"
"BusLogic Family as primary boot device"
"BusLogic Family not as primary boot device"
Select the first AMIscsi option if you want the AMI driver to replace the
(default) Adaptec driver as the primary boot device driver. If you do
not want to replace the primary boot driver, select the second AMIscsi
option. The AMI driver will still replace the Adaptec driver as the SCSI
driver loaded after bootup. You would normally select this option if you
boot from a non-SCSI device, such as an IDE drive.
Note: You can also use this setup procedure to replace the default
Adaptec driver with the BusLogic driver. And, after you have replaced
the Adaptec driver, you can use it to restore it. Just select one of
the second through the sixth options as appropriate.
8) Click on "Install" in the "Select SCSI Adapter Option" window.
9) Ensure that the "path to the SCSI adapter files" is "A:\NT311" or
"B:\NT311", and click on OK.
Note: If you are using this procedure to install a BusLogic or Adaptec
driver, enter the drive letter of your CD ROM drive followed by the path
"\i386\". For example, if the drive is D:, you would enter "D:\i386\".
Your Windows NT CD should be in the drive.
10) When the procedure finishes, close the "Windows NT Setup" window, and
click on OK in the "Setup Message" window.
You will have to perform a "Shutdown" and reboot Windows NT before the AMISCSI
driver (or other newly installed driver) will become the active driver.
Note: If you have replaced the Adaptec driver with the BusLogic driver as
the primary boot driver, you will have to enable the extended mode of your
adapter before you can reboot Windows NT. The AMI driver can work with the
extended mode enabled or disabled.
